BACKGROUND
Shisei Ryu Aikibudo Kai Hombu Dojo is the lead dojo in our small and growing organization of dojo's, clubs and study groups. It is the dojo where the Kaiso (founder) teaches classes and conducts research to improve the system along with his assistants.
Shisei Dojo is an independent dojo, not a franchise school or "marquee school", or "McDojo". Our Family started this "place for learning the way", to foster a unique martial arts learning environment in our small rural town.
It's a true family dojo - the way it should be, the way it used to be, before money became a primary motivation for many schools. Scholarships have been rendered to Honor Roll students in need. We also donate funds to our local Women's Shelter.
This dojo is a place for an educational process, studying budo (warrior ways), and improving ourselves through personal development, physically, mentally and spiritually. Its a special place.

We do not proselytize religions here, nor do we use the school for the purpose of any "religious ministry". We teach Budo here; learning key aspects of the ancient "warrior culture" is a part of the training process and forms the overall core ethos of a martial art. This is not the same as teaching religion in a dojo. Certain behaviors, modes of conduct and traditions of respect, are however part of the experience, without them, a dojo becomes simply, a gym.
We are Christian, but do not use our dojo, or art to promote a religious belief system. I am however, an Instructor member of the Gospel Martial Arts Union. The "dojo" considers a person's religion as a very personal matter. This choice is out of respect for families, parents and adults who feel this is something best taught in churches, or at home. My hope is that if there is a "witness", it is both in our actions, and in our art however.
Our dojo, is "less than a church but more than a gym", it's somewhere in between the two ends of that spectrum. It is a place of some reverence due to the events that occur within its walls.
ABOUT THE DOJO
Shisei Dojo is a 54 mat (Tatami) dojo with 1,230 square feet of Swain Olympic Gold Medal Premium mats with 5/8 inch cross-linked foam underlay. Its the safest matting on the market.
We opened this dojo because we care about teaching quality Budo - profit is not our focus, teaching however, is our passion. Our dojo family is our focus.

If you are looking for a comfortable, clean and safe dojo, with instruction based on sound principles, this is the place for you. If you want to train with people with pure intent, this is the place for you.

If you want personal instruction, this is the place for you. You will not be a number, you will not be simply another person paying the bills. We value and live by the Sensei - Deshi relationship - this forms a true and lasting bond between teacher and student.
With very rare exceptions, all classes are taught by the Ducote Sensei, a Master Teacher with over 35 years of experience as a teacher.
We offer classes for 5-7 yr olds, 8-12 yr olds and Adult classes starting at 13 yrs and up. We also teach a familiarization class from time to time for 3-4 year olds.
Classes are small and personal.
Class size is very limited to make sure students can learn with the proper student-instructor ratio.
Memberships pay to keep the dojo open, the instruction is free.
Shisei Dojo does not teach MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), while there is "combative effectiveness" in MMA, I do not philosophically agree with the MMA "ethos and emphasis".
We teach Budo, not sport or competition martial arts.
Our foundation art is Shisei Ryu Aikibudo. Emphasis for children and youth is karate-do, judo and basic aikido - this keeps the classes varied and interesting as well as forming a foundation for self defense. Adult classes are more focused on practical Aikido, self defense and personal development. We are not a "pain based" martial art, or dojo - techniques can work without pain as the primary tool to subdue and attacker. Physics, however always works, as does a firm understanding of principles and the ability to perform the technique in the proper manner.
RESPECT - DISCIPLINE - FOCUS are central points in our child and youth programs. Success often lies just beyond where most people start to give up. Our training will teach your child and provide them with the staying power to keep at it, until success is achieved. Success is a habit. So is failure. We will help your child develop the habits and skills found in winners. These areas are important for building character and the ability to succeed in life. We teach healthy ways of dealing with conflict.
This school also offers assault prevention classes to the community on a periodic basis. We work closely with local law enforcement and the June Jenkins Women's Shelter to provide these services and we donate funds to this cause. Our prices for regular class instruction are low and very competitive, our focus is on providing the community high quality training for children and adults alike. We do not consider ourselves a "commercial school" or a "belt promotion mill".
Memberships keep the dojo running, the instruction we view as being free. There is no "price" that can possibly "pay" for what is learned in any dojo.
Budo for us, is not a hobby or business, its a way of life.

Our students train in a traditional setting in an atmosphere of mutual welfare, cooperation and benefit; as well as -- beginning a journey of self discovery via our unique style and modern training methods.
